SoCo - SOUTH CONGRESS

In the last five years, few areas have changed as much as SoCo (South Congress.) This ultra-hip area of town is a haven for an eclectic mix of young professionals and laid-back free-spirits. While the area is technically the dividing point between Travis Heights, a traditionally high-priced neighborhood, and Bouldin Creek, one of Central Austin’s most affordable areas, SoCo has developed into an area all its own.

All along S. Congress Ave., new high-end condominiums are popping up, but at the same time, existing properties are being rehabbed, which offers a more affordable option for living within this funky neighborhood. While it’s a small area of town, the plan is to make it densely populated and very urban in its feel.

Residents within SoCo tend to be very active and sociable. Community interaction is a big part of this thriving neighborhood, and the people are always looking for an excuse to enjoy themselves.

Long regarded as one of Austin's best live music venues, the Continental Club is a huge attraction for residents and tourists, alike.  Favorite food venues include Guero's, El Sol y La Luna, and Magnolia Cafe, among several others.  Jo's Coffee has become an Austin landmark, and hosts frequent fashion shows and summer movie showings.

SoCo offers some of the hippest thrift and vintage stores in the city, including Uncommon Objects and Lucy in Disguise.  On The First Thursdays of each month, the entire area of SoCo throws a huge block party, where all of the shops and eateries stay open late.
